Cannot use EZ Trax with the MS Connect 210 over Ethernet

While you can connect to Quadrus Mini series via ethernet using Microscan ESP, you can't download images from a Mini Velocity, for example, thru the MS Connect. The same goes for Microscan's EZ Trax software.
This would be a truly fast way to retrieve/store images over a network.

Microscan Mini Velocity Reads Codes On The Fly

Microscan Mini Velocity Reads Codes On The Fly
Microscan's latest product, the Mini Velocity is another addition to the Mini family.
The Velocity has a different shutter that allows for capture of products in fast motion. - 100 inches per second.
We've tested it at 100 fpm and 4.5 inches away very successfully capturing the entire field of view. I believe external lighting would be needed for faster speeds.
The Velocity is the first Mini to feature Q-Mode, a new Microscan decoding algorithm, which allows datamatrix decodes down to 1.5 pixels/element.

4 State Customer Bar Code Solution

Microscan's newest reader, the Mini Velocity, offers the ability to read most popular postal codes on the fly at speeds tested up to 100 fpm - can most likely go faster.

Including the 4 state customer bar code, also referred as onecode, the Velocity has the field of view to perform this task.

Vial Bar Code Reading Solution

Using the Microscan Quadrus Mini 3 and a host software application, we've developed an inexpensive method to read up to 96 unique datamatrix codes on vials in an approximately 3x5 tray.

This 3 megapixel imager has plenty of resolution to be far enough away to get the field of view you want and still read small datmatrix codes.

Ethernet I/P info

Here's a link to a cool page on Rockwell Automation's site explaining the benefits of Ethernet I/P. http://www.ab.com/networks/ethernet.html

This site has a lot of information. It really helps explain the additional features and standards that Factory Ethernet or Ethernet I/P has over standard TCP/IP.

Of course, the MS Connect 210 comes with available Ethernet I/P.

Contact us for more information on Ethernet I/P.

Microscan 890 No Data Output or Beep on Calibration Screen

We came across this situation this week trying to read a bar code in the calibration screen of Microscan's ESP software. It shows the code reading and the % decode but no beep and no data out the 25 pin port. As soon as you switch to the Terminal window, the reader beeps and outputs the data.
In Continuous read mode, you also have to have the current focal settings in the database or the scanner won't read. The database was designed to be used with a trigger event.

Increase Decode Speeds on the Quadrus Mini 3

Increase Decode Speeds on the Quadrus Mini 3

Disable Pre-processing

We have yet to discover any impacts of changing the setting on the Mini3 at this point. Our testing showed decode times improved by 2X to 3X from the Enabled Pre-Processing times. The screen shot below shows one of the locations in ESP.

Problems using a VGA splitter for Microscan

To split the signal from the MS Connect, I built a 6 foot long Y cable to connect 2- MS-9's or 820's to the MS Connect. This cable causes the MS Connect to treat the 2 scanners like 1. It works great but the 22 gauge cable with 24 wires is a bear to make. Many companies make a VGA splitter Y cable that is straight thru and combined with a standard Microscan HD15 extension cable seems to do the job. But, thru some hair pulling, the Y cable won't work with 2 MS-9's or and MS-9 and an 820.

Turns out that the VGA splitter cables are only 28 gauge. American Wire Gauge Table shows that a 28 gauge cable can only carry 226 milliamps and you need about 300. My 22 gauge cable will carry over 900. Contact us for more information on this and any other Microscan product.

Folder Bar Code Reader System

High Speed Paper Folding Machine Bar Code Reader Solution

This system controls 1 or 2 independent bar code readers with a single trigger.

Complete with a latching relay that connects to the folder to stop it the instant there's a problem. The folder will instantly restart after pressing the reset button.

Capable of reading beyond 11,000 sheets/hour, this system can read 1D and 2D codes.

Why is there a period at the beginning of my bar code data?

If you're using a USB keyboard wedge version
of the Microscan Quadrus Mini or the MS-4, you
may notice a "." at the beginning of the 2nd line of data.

This is the LF from the previous bar code's postamble.
In keyboard wedge mode, configure the postamble to just
be CR and not the default CR LF.

How to integrate a latching/unlatching relay when you are out of inputs

Many of Microscan's bar code scanners and imagers have the ability to have an output latch. The problem comes when you need to unlatch. You need an input to unlatch such as the new master pin or the trigger pin. But chances are, you're already using them for the application. Only the 890 with a wiring box has an extra input. The above picture is of a magnetic latching relay. You can send it a pulse and it will latch. It just requires a toggle switch to the extra coil to reset the relay.

How to Connect an 860/880/EZ to an IB 131

Here’s a little matrix of how to replace an 820/911/MS-3/Mini with an 860 or an EZ or even an 880

If you use the 61-000011-01 cable (left column), I ohmed out the cable by color and pin# to create a cable for the 860/880/EZ

Add a stack light to the MS Connect

Adding an Allen Bradley 24 volt LED stack light to the Microscan MS Connect w/display, makes it a great stand along code matching system or operator interface.

Make use of the 3 ouptuts for Good read/Match, No read, Mismatch, Trend Analysis, etc..

Plenty of visual feedback to the operator w/built in speaker. Plug in dry contact relays or capture a pulse for your PLC.

Works with all Microscan products.

Plus you can plug in a 5 volt hand held.

Multiple characters in the Preamble or Postamble

The Microscan MSQ is one of the few handhelds where you can program more than 2 characters in the preamble or postamble. This comes in handy if you’re sending ASCII strings to another device like a display or a Microscan fixed mount scanner.

Program the New Master via Handheld on the MS Connect

Set the Mini or other Microscan scanner’s Aux port mode to command processing. Connect the Microscan MSQ to the Aux port connectors in the MS Connect box. Match the serial port settings. Add <K231,1, to the preamble or whatever the leading encapsulation needs to be – email us for the particular scanner command. Set the post amble to >.

Use output 2 for Noread on the 860

It says it on the spec sheet but it doesn’t make sense. For whatever reason, output 2 can only be used in a noread situation. You can make outputs 1 and 3 fire on a noread but you can’t make output 2 fire on a mismatch or anything other than a noread.
